Geocache Description:

You will need to swim, kayak or take the ferry for this one! a short and pleasant walk from the shore if you land by the pier or sandy beach on the left of it. The proper track from the pier takes you to the opposite direction, though the terrain towards the cache is easy to walk. GPS reception is good around the cache (there is no big trees around it)

Look back to Nelson and enjoy the view of the houses on the hills (only possible from here or from a boat!)
The cache is small, contains a notebook, a pencil, a sharpener and few toys. There is room for TB, coins, etc.

About the place:
Haulashore Island, just offshore from Nelson's busy Rocks Road, has not always been an island, once being the western end of the famous Boulder Bank.

In 1906 a channel was blasted through the boulder bank to make safer route for shipping to enter Nelson's Harbour.

The island gained its name because, in early colonial days, small-medium sized boats were hauled up onto the sheltered shore of the island for cleaning and repairs.

It is now a popular spot for small boats, kayaks and day trips on the ferry. Is equipped with a picnic table and a toilet. if you see any rubbish, please take it to the bin and help us keeping the island clean.

Note: no big rats anymore, in 1991 the Nelson City Council approached The University of Auckland rodent invasion research group for the eradication of rats in the island.

Many thanks and enjoy the hunt
