Located near the DAR monument on Beacon Mountain.
From Websters: beacon –noun
1. a guiding or warning signal, as a light or fire, esp. one in an elevated position.
2. a tower or hill used for such purposes.
I meet many people who dont know about the history of Beacon Mountain, and how the mountain and the city were named.
Beacon Mountain earned its name as a site used during the Revolutionary War to build fires signaling the movements and advances of the British ships and troops.
The city of Beacon takes its name from the mountain.
I have also found that many hikers have trouble locating the monument on North Beacon Mountain.
The monument is near the cache site and was constructed by the Daughters of the American Revolution at the site of the original signal fire on the mountain. There are great views from the cache site.
This is a small container (Decon Container)
Original contents include log book, pencil, a small flag, some red, wite&blue star stickers, a couple geocaching.com stickers, and a bonus for the FTF.
While on the mountain to place the cache, I saw quite a few snake skins, so use caution in warmer weather.
Please be careful to close the container completely and properly, and to re-hide it as found. Thanks and Enjoy!!
