Kårbygravfältet är från yngre stenålder, 500-1050, och består av ett 30-tal stensättningar och högar.
Att de avlidna på den tiden brändes på bål finns bevittnat av den arabiske handelsresanden Ibn Fadlan. Enligt honom skulle den avlidnes själ följa med röken till himlen.
Cachen är inte gömd i närheten av något fornminne !
During the Vendel and Viking periods (500-1050 AD), this was the heathen burial ground of the small hamlet of Kårby. The grave field consists of about 30 round grave mounds.
The deceased were all cremated in order to let their spirits follow the smoke of the pyre to heaven. Then the mound was built over the charred remains of the body as a memorial.
The cache is not hidden in a mound !
