Come join us for a self conducted tour of many points of interest within Wellington's Botanic Gardens. This Puzzle/multi is approx 6Km and covers approx 20 different locations of interest around the gardens and will take about 2.5 to 3.5 hours to complete. We hope you enjoy your walk and the Gardens.
No flora or fauna requires to be disturbed to complete this puzzle type cache is located in a heavy wooded area with little undergrowth.
The Botanic Gardens cover 25 hectares between the business district, Tinakori and Kelburn. The garden was first established in 1868 and managed by the NZ Institute but since 1991 been managed by Wellington City Council.
There are wonderful views, on a good day, of Wellington and Hutt Valley from the Cable Car entrance. If you have the time, ride the cable car and visit the Cable Car Museum. The Lady Norsewood Rose Garden is a colourful spectacular from November to May. The Begoina House is also worth a visit with many exotic plants and also has a garden cafe. The Treehouse visitor centre (one of the few places we dont visit on our tour) is also worth a visit. We have also excluded Bolton street Memorial Park and Seddon Memorial but this is only a short walk while you are at the Rose Gaden. Sept-Oct, the main entrance at Gelnmore Street sees a display of over 25,000 flowering tulips.
You will have to visit 20 way points around the Gardens with most of the info found on plaques around the gardens. Pencil and paper are essential and a calculator may be of assistance (especially if your adding ability is like mine!!) A map of the Gardens, available at the gardens or WCC may also be of assistance to you. Although there are several ways of entering the Gardens, we have chosen Glen Street as ths is central to the end localtion and usually easy parking.
