Geocache Description:

This was originally K8’s 2008 Christmas cache, but Christmas has come and gone and the baubles put away for another year.

The sign says Welcome to and Farewell from The Pine Rivers Shire, but in reality it’s more a case of farewell, as the Pine Rivers Shire no longer exists as an entity.

In 2008 this land locked shire was FORCED by the state government to amalgamate with Caboolture and Redcliffe shires to become the Moreton Bay Region Council.

The Pine Rivers Shire was the only local government council not named after an actual locality and is now part of the third largest regional council in Australia.

It has been estimated it will take a couple of years at least, to amend the nearly three thousand bylaw variations across the three previous councils.

That’s without replacing old logo’s and street signage such as this greeting. It will probably circum to the forces of nature before the council gets it, so in the mean time enjoy the cache.
