Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates. This is a simple two stage cache to introduce cachers to a little road side curiosity in Whitman.

The town of Whitman is undoubtedly best known as the birthplace of the Tollhouse Cookie. The cookies, which became a national treasure, were created by Ruth Wakefield in 1937 at the Toll House Inn. The story is that one evening Ruth decided to make chocolate butter cookies for the guests staying at the Inn. On a whim, she broke up one of the bars of semi-sweet chocolate that guest Andrew Nestle had given her. The confection did not make the dough chocolate as she thought it would but she served them, hot and gooey, anyway, and they were an instant success. The business-savvy Ruth named them Chocolate Crunch Cookies and made a deal with Nestle that allowed it to put the recipe on its chocolate bar if it supplied her with free semi-sweet chocolate in return. In 1939, the chocolate morsel that is added to the 7 billion cookies baked each year, was introduced.

The posted coordinates are for the road side Toll House sign and for the plaque detailing some history about the birthplace of the very familiar cookie. You'll find all the answers needed to find the cache container on the plaque.
