Located at the entrance to the grounds of Zakimi Castle this is a great little museum jam packed full of Okinawa culture, artifacts, and Art from the Yomitan village area. It has over 400,000 items on display. You could make an entire day at the museum or make it part of a tour to Zakimi Castle.
One exhibit is dedicated to the archaeological finds from the remains of Zakimi Castle. These are displayed along with artifacts of significance from the local village. Another exhibit is dedicated to World War Two. As Yomitan was one of the landing point for U.S. troops this exibit is dedicated to events that took place before and after the battle of Okinawa near or in the Village of Yomitan. A large section is dedicated to educating visitors about local culture, food, clothing, shelter, and famous textiles of Yomitan. This section on Okinawa culture in Yomitan includes an exhibition on a type of grave only found in Okinawa called kamekoubaka (turtle back tomb). The exhibition allows guests to a unique opportunity to peer into the tomb. On the third floor is an art museum with many permanent exhibits of Yomitan fabrics and ceramics.
