Geocache Description:

This boulder of was transported here by glacial movement from St. Ignace across the Mackinaw Straits.

Glacial/Erratic boulder is a piece of rock that deviates from the type and size of rock native to the place where it is now found. The name 'erratic' simply means it is in an errant location.Erratic/glacial boulders like this one, was carried to its current location by glacial ice. Boulders like this one can be even larger than this one or as small as pebbles.

Geologists identify erratics by studying other rocks surounding the position of the erratic itself and its composition too.

Geologists believe that this glacial erratic boulder was removed by glacial movement from an outcrop north of St. Ignace. It dropped on top of the glacial ice which continued to move carrying it along.

When the ice melted this massive boulder was left where it now rests.
