Bjarnes ferjested/Bjarnes ferryberth
Fra det gamle ferjestedet i Follestad rodde brødrene Bjarne og Kåre folk over elva mellom Follestad og Klosterøya i over 70 år. Dette var en av Norges korteste ferjeruter med en strekning på 124 meter. Da en motorisert båt tok over for robåten, tok turen over Bryggevannet under 1 minutt. Men som regel varte turen langt mer enn det ene minuttet. Bjarne måtte nemlig alltid fortelle en historie før han la i veg, en historie underveis, og en historie før du kunne forlate ferja. Den motoriserte ferja fikk navnet Bjarkå etter Bjarne og Kåre. For alle ungene som bodde i Follestad, var dette "skolebussen" for de som gikk på Gimsøy skole. Trafikken opphørte rundt 1970, og i 2003 brant den gamle ferjebua ned. I 2005 ble bygget gjenreist for å hedre dette gamle minnet. Gjenoppbyggingen ble finansiert ved et spleiselag mellom Skien kommune og Grenland Havnevesen.
I disse dager planlegges det å opprette denne ferjeforbindelsen igjen, og man har allerede fått tak i en båt. Mange mener dette er den opprinnelige Bjarkå, men dette hersker det imidlertid noe uenighet om. Båten - Bjarkå eller ikke - ligger i dag ved Klosterøya og venter på å bli pusset opp og satt i drift.

From the old ferryberth in Follestad the brothers Bjarne and Kåre rowed people across the river between Follestad and Klosterøya for more than 70 years. It was one of the shortest ferrycrossings in Norway, only 124 metres. When a boat with an engine replaced the old rowingboat, the crossing of Bryggevannet lasted less than a minute. Usually the trip took a lot more than a minute though. The ferryman Bjarne always had a story to tell before he started, another during the crossing, and a new one when people were about to leave the ferry. The motorized ferry was named "Bjarkå" after Bjarne and Kåre. The children living in Follestad had the ferry as their "schoolbus" on their way to the school at Gimsøy. The ferrytraffic lasted till the 1970ies, and in 2003 the old ferryhouse burnt down. In 2005 the little house was rebuilt as an honour to the old memories. The rebuilding was paid as a Dutch treat between the local council of Skien and Grenland port authorities. Nowadays there are plans to reestablish the old ferryconnection, and a boat has already been supplied. A lot of people are of the opinion that the boat actually is the old "Bjarkå", but there are discussions about this question. The boat - "Bjarkå" or not - lies today at Klosterøya waiting to be renovated and put in action again.
