A relatively easy cache located on the scenic SUNY Geneseo campus
(definitely bring a camera!). This is my first time hiding a cache,
so bear with me if something goes terribly awry!
The cache is a 20 OZ Lock & Lock container, camouflaged (please
be sure to hide it well after finding it, so it doesn't get
muggled). Inside is room for a log and small prizes. FTF gets a
brand new SUNY Geneseo pennant! Congrats to Caterp1llar for the
FTF!
I’m a student at SUNY Geneseo, and I was introduced to Geocaching
by my math professor, DHouse502, at the beginning of the semester.
He told us that it was extra credit, which instantly piqued my
interest, but when I realized it combined two of my favorite
outdoors activities, hiking and orienteering, I was excited to
register and start caching.
It’s been about two months and I’ve found 25+ caches with my dad,
tommasz. I thought it was about time to hide my own, and hiding it
on campus seemed like the perfect place — it provides a starter
cache for any Geneseo students that learn about Geocaching in class
and want to give it a try.
I picked an area that is located by several campus points of
interest so that on the way to or from the cache you can check them
out. But be careful for muggles at GZ, this is a college campus and
it is obviously full of students. Be discreet. If you wish to cache
at night, the area is lit.

This gazebo overlook boasts one of the best views of the valley,
especially at sunset! Extremely picturesque, no matter what time of
day, so be sure to bring your camera. Campus lore claims the
sunsets at Geneseo were ranked in the Top 10 by National Geographic
Magazine (but this is false, because there is no such ranking).

This tree, fondly referred to as the Seuss Spruce, is one of the
campus’s best-known landmarks. It gets its name from its bizarre
crooked and spiraling shape, like from a Dr. Seuss illustration.
Across from this tree you’ll see our other special tree, the
Painted Tree. There are almost 50 years of paint on it, and it’s
still growing and producing leaves!

Sturges Hall is the signature building on campus. On top sits the
Alumni Carillon, which chimes on the hour and plays songs
throughout the day. Maybe you’ll be able to “name that tune” when
you search for this cache.

For parking, please be careful when parking in lots labeled
“Parking by Permit Only.” I, along with many people I know, have
received tickets for parking places without a permit or with the
wrong permit. The University Police spend pretty much all of their
time checking permits. On weekends you’ll be fine, but be wary on
weekdays. I would recommend playing it safe and parking in the
visitors lot (the coordinates above that I have provided), because
then on the way to the cache you can check out our beautiful
campus. There is also a campus map at this location if you’d like
to look at it. There is a brief history of the school next to it.
If you’re a SUNY Geneseo student and have just starting caching,
feel free to ask me for help with this cache or others in the area.
You can either email me (ajm21) or come up and ask me, I’m that
girl with pink hair that you might have seen around!
Have fun caching!
