The series continues with the Killdeer. You are looking for a small camo container in this Harris County Park open from 7am to dusk. It contains a log and small pen. Please return the container carefully so it stays hidden.
The Killdeer is North America's most well-know plover. These birds can be common around human developments, frequently seen on ball fields, parking lots and other unnatural habitats. Its "broken wing" display is famous and known by many non-birders. Killdeer are often seen in the area east the hospital at Fry and Kingland and George Bush Park.
The brown upperparts turn orange at the rump. The underparts are white except for two distinctive bold black breast bands.
As I placed the cache this afternoon both a Loggerhead Strike and an Eastern Phoebe were in the trees over the water. A Carolina Wren was in the brush along the road. Plan and spend a few extra minutes and no telling what interesting birds you may see too.
