The Muir Creek Trail starts where Muir Creek
dumps into the Rogue River. Since Muir Creek and the Rogue are
pretty much the same size here, many people confuse the waterway
downstream as Muir Creek, but it is really the Rogue River.
This beautiful, easy trail for hiking or horseback riding is
almost four miles long. But, at the end of the trail you can
connect to the Buck Canyon Trail and keep going for miles. This
trail meanders along the banks of the creek and crosses several
small creeks. I hear the fishing in Muir Creek is great. Also,
watch for elk as they love to hang out in these low meadows. This
is open range so you may come across a cow or two as well.
The cache is hidden at the trailhead parking area. It is a camo
peanut butter jar and is NOT on the ground. There will be snow here
most of the winter but if you park beside the road you can still
access the cache (walking over the snow). You may have to use
stealth if there are others parked at the trailhead. It’s
right on Hwy 230 at an elevation of 3922’.
