Street Series-- McLean Street is part of a series describing the origin of street names in Halifax City.
John S, MacLean, the street's namesake was in busines rather than politics. Son of a Scotish immigrant preacher, he became the head of the Bank of Nova Scotia from 1874 until his death, by sudden heart attack at the age of 61, in 1889. It was Acadia Street while MacLean lived there. in the mansion known as Thorndean. At the tun of the twentieth century, Acadia Street was renamed MacLean Street (Kyle Shaw)
