Geocache Description:

This cache is located in a patch of woods just off I-385 near exit 10. After exiting go towards Laurens. It is approx 50 yards from Ghost Creek Road. Container is camoed and NOT on the ground. The area has a nice place to park..look close!

This is #19 in our "WEIRD SC" Series which will consist of caches placed at locations where either ghosts, unknown creatures, or just plain weird things have occurred or exist.

We think our State Motto should change to "Smiling Faces, Haunted Places".

When researching this series Aries depends on Books, newspaper articles, internet sites, word of mouth and other "clues" to find "Weird" places to hide caches.
But this one was wayyyy too easy!

When Aries saw a listing for "Ghost Creek Road" in Laurens County he was all over it.

The road is only about 1 & 3/4 miles long; and there are few houses on it. About 1 and 1/2 mile down you come to a sharpe curve and a small bridge over a creek.

Legend has it that a couple was engaged many years ago in the area. The night before the wedding the young man died in a car crash on this little bridge.
It is said that if you turn your car off and walk around clockwise it will not start. There will also be a white apparition in the trees.

The local newspaper has done several stories on the legend and apparantly it is very well known in the area.

While attempting to get permission to place this cache Aries was getting frustrated as three of the property owners on the road refused. All stated that too many people came to the area late at night looking for the ghost, leaving skid marks, trash, and making a lot of noise.
As Aries started to leave the area he spotted a man standing on the side of the road. After explaining Geocaching and what he wanted to do to the man he said to hide the cache in it's current location about 50 yards from the begining of Ghost Creek Road. The old farmer was grizzled looking with overalls and an old straw hat. When Aries asked him about the Legends he scoffed and said "There ain't no ghost's 'round here, just a bunch of people making a fuss over nuthin'. My family's owned this land here for over 200 years and there are plenty of things spooky around here. Don't need to be makin' things up." Aries thanked the old gentleman and started back from the woods towards his car. Remembering something he turned back to the old man "Hey, is it ok to..." but he suddenly stopped. The old man was nowhere to be seen!

"Hello?, Hello!?!" Aries called out. but to no avail.

As he climbed into his car it occured to Aries that when he arrived the old man had been standing on the side of the woods. And there was no vehicle around. Just an old abandoned dilapidated farm house about 150 yards away........

When you finish finding the cache be sure to drive down Ghost creek Road.
But slow down at the bridge!!!!
