Geocache Description:

Across the road there were 1500 wild horses in holding pens. They were moved up to corrals on Indian Lakes Rd. BLM is paying the corral owners to take care of these horses. There are over 35,000 (wild?) horses in holding pens throughout the US. 2023 UPDATE, There are now over 44,000 wild free roaming horses in NV.

In 2010 another temporary holding corral was installed northeast of Fallon along Indian Lakes Road. There are about 31,000 wild horses on the range in 10 western states, about half of those in NV. 2023 UPDATE: The are over 68000 Horses and 13000 Burros living on the rangeland in the West. The BLM has set the "appropriate management level" on the western rangeland at 27,219 horses. The BLM has relied on a horse adoption program to take the horses off the range land. Some of these horses are unadoptable and live in these holding pens for over 15 years.
