Geocache Description:

While hiking the Millennium Trail back in the spring I saw several large Orchard Spider webs across the trail in this section of the Millennium.  If you are lucky enough to hike on a morning when dew is on the web, like I was, you will be treated to a pretty fascinating sight.

Orchard Spider,  Leucauge genus (B. Newton, 2002)

The Orchard Spider is one of Kentucky’s most colorful spiders.  They have bright green, white, and yellow markings.  They can reach up to an inch in size with the female being larger than the male and having a different color pattern.  Orchard spiders are members of the Long Jawed Orb Weaver family of spiders.  The distinguishing characteristic of this family is their long fangs.  Even though they have large fangs they rarely bite humans and their bites are not dangerous except for allergic reactions.  They can be prey for birds and other small animals.  Orchard Spiders build a typical circular with spokes or orb type web.

The cache is a small Lock & Lock located near the trail were I observed these webs.  So keep a close look out because there are spiders in these woods.
