Geocache Description:

A 670ml Clip top plastic box, Hidden on a World War Two Anti-Aircraft Gun Emplacement.

This is the second of a series of caches to be hidden in and around The Celtic Manor Resort, as a celebration of the venue playing host to the Ryder Cup in 2010. The biggest event in golf and the world's 3rd biggest sporting event.

This Cache has been set to show the variety local of military history on this site from Roman to living memory.

This Cache has been placed very close to the route of an old Roman Road the Via Juilet and within the remains of a WW2 anti-aircraft gun emplacement.

The site is part of the Roman Road golf course which takes its name from the Via Juilet which was the main Roman highway from east to west, and linked the Roman fortress town of Isca (now modern day Caerleon) to Silchester (near Swindon)

The open veiws across the Bristol Channel from this ridge way make it a perfect place for observation and during the second world war a battery of 3.7inch heavy anti-aircraft guns where installed here to protect shipping and the local docks.

The site was manned around the clock by the men and women of 131 Regiment, Royal Artilley, with gunners, dispatch riders, radar operators and mechanics all being based at the emplacement. Luckly today the only heavy volleys you will hear are from the nearby outdoor tennis courts!

You are looking for a 670ml plastic clip-top box with a Geocaching sticker on it. It contains items to trade and a log book and pen.

Just remember its a public area with plenty golfers and hotel windows and balconys overlooking the cache site, so keep an eye out for Geomuggles!
