Geocache Description:

The Millennium trail crosses a top of Fossil Falls at this location.  Ok I have to admit it, unless you are really vertically challenged or a furry little critter, the falls may not be very impressive with a total drop of about 1 foot. And unless you are here during the monsoon season the falls will most likely be dry.
What is of interest here are the fossils embedded in the exposed bedrock that form the falls. The fossils are mostly crinoid fragments but I did spot a few shell (brachiopod) pieces.
Crinoids were sea creatures that lived on the bottom of a shallow ocean that once existed here. They are in the same family as starfish and sea urchins.  The fragments that are most commonly seen are from the stalk or stem part of the crinoids.  There are stalked Crinoid varieties that continue to live today in ocean water 300 or more feet deep.

The cache is a 3 inch by 2 inch bottle located near the falls that can hold geocoins or small trade items.
This cache placement has been approved by Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest.
