Geocache Description:

The cache is named in honor of Chief Thundercloud. It is located just off of Rt. 209 and Rt 739 in the Delaware Cemetery in Dingmans Ferry, PA. Please enter the cemetery via the Main Entrance on Route 739, just a few hundred feet north of the Rt 209/739 intersection.

Chief Thundercloud was a famous American Indian who lived from 1856 to 1916. (This is NOT the Chief Thundercloud who was portrayed by actor Victor Daniels (Tonto) in the movies.) Chief Thundercloud was a member of the Blackfeet tribe. He was a scout with the US Army. Afterward, he also worked in show business with P.T. Barnum and he was also in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. He posed for artists such as Fredrick Remington and John Singer. It is believed that he was the model for the nickel as well as the last five dollar gold piece that was minted in the US. The cache is not near his grave, but Chief Thundercloud was buried in the Delaware Cemetery in 1916. I looked around for awhile, but couldn't find his grave initially. PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL WHEN SEARCHING FOR THIS CACHE. The container is NOT located on or immediately near any gravestones. The container is a 4” x 5" x 2” camoed lock-n-lock container. ***** THANKS TO PIRATES OF WALLENPAUPACK FOR FINDING THE GRAVE OF CHIEF THUNDERCLOUD AND MARKING THE COORDINATES (see below). *********
