Geocache Description:

A 670ml Clip top plastic box, Hidden on a woodland trail in the ancient Coldra wood

This is the fourth of a series of caches to be hidden in and around The Celtic Manor Resort, as a celebration of the venue playing host to the Ryder Cup in 2010. The biggest event in golf and the world's 3rd biggest sporting event.

This Cache has been set to let all Geocachers stretch their legs exploring in beautiful natural ancient woodland.

The Coldra Wood has played host to a number of activities over its life time, its first recorded usage was the edge of hunting land owned by the Norman Barrons at Chepstow Castle over 13 miles away.

It was later used for producing charcoal and lime and the remains of a Lime kiln are still visable, Lime kilns were used to produce quick lime for building mortars and as a stabilizer in mud renders and floors, a small quarry is also to be found further along the path.

There is also evidence of a moated enclosure that may have acted as a fortification for a house or early farm in the lower part of the wood. Now enclosed by the A449 the wood gives its name to Junction 24 of the M4 motorway (The Coldra round-about).

The wood is home to lots of wildlife including the endangered doormouse and there are lots of nesting boxes placed on trees within the woodland.

You are looking for a 670ml plastic clip-top box with a Geocaching sticker on it. It contains items to trade and a log book and pen.

Please remember to re-hide the cache well as the site is fully visable from the path.
