Missing Local Man Returns; Claims Abduction

by J. Fogerty, staff writer
The Waldorf Daily Planet

Moline, Maryland, Dec 13 — Scientists and pseudo-scientists from around the world descended on this little-known Charles County town yesterday, jostling for interviews with a local man who claims he was abducted and held by aliens.

Buford J. "Jody" Squashbottom was reported missing over a week ago by his wife Ethel, but an area-wide APB turned up nothing—nothing, that is, until Squashbottom staggered through his front door late Friday evening wearing only a trash bag and an aluminum foil hat. He also reportedly had a small fish lodged in his ear.

Squashbottom claims to have spent the week in the custody of the "Galaxoids," who beamed him out of his tractor, subjected him to invasive medical examinations and scanned his brainwaves for secret military information. He described a daring escape in which he secretly modified his cell phone into a "ray gun," stunned the aliens and leaped into the transporter—materializing seconds later in the drive-thru lane of a local Taco Bell. He attempted to demonstrate the weapon for reporters, but it was apparently damaged during transport (the test only produced a "Play That Funky Music" ringtone).

As proof of his story, Squashbottom provided a secret document that he stole from the aliens and hid in his underwear prior to his escape. The document contains symbols that he claims are code for the location of an alien homing device, constructed, curiously, of tupperware. When one investigator pointed out that the opposite side of the document was Squashbottom's overdue electric bill, he responded that the aliens were a "crafty bunch." Asked why a civilization capable of intergalactic travel would utilize a tupperware homing device, he said that he would provide "all of those technical details" in an upcoming Geraldo interview, for which he will reportedly be paid $17 million.

Faced with the bullet-proof nature of Squashbottom's story, local law enforcement officials had little choice but to launch a 24/7 effort to crack the code and find the homing device before the aliens return with reinforcements and anti-cell phone weapons.

Police are asking anyone who can determine the location of the homing device to proceed there immediately on their own cognizance and disable it by rummaging through the contents. Since the device may be capable of rearming itself, frequent rummaging may be required.

Humankind is counting on you. Good luck, and be careful out there.
