Geocache Description:

Alwoodley Old Hall Date 1950.

The manor was bought in 1630 by Sir Gervase Clifton, and the estate changed hands in 1661, being sold to Cornelius Clarke. The first Lord Bingley bought it in 1729, and it then passed through marriage to the Lane Fox family. The new reservoir was the death knell for the hall. It did was realised that the new water supply for Leeds could be contaminated by effluent from the Hall and it fell into decay. It was finally demolished in 1969, all except the one fine window. This was demolished some 10 years ago.

The photo is an exterior view from the south east of the stone multi-gabled, mullioned windowed hall with lawned gardens. Windows are small and rectangular with decorative lintel above. Tall tree to front site only remains..

The cache is not hidden at the actual location of the house due to permission issues but is hidden as near as possible, if you look uphill through the hedge you can still see the out buildings shown in the photograph.

The terrain diff level reflects something you have to cross to get there, easier than four for some... maybe a five star for others....(oh and then there is a vertical element.....)
