Geocache Description:

HIstorical Tour of Demopolis, AL

Welcome to the Demopolis Historical Tour!!! I have put together this tour to take you to fourteen sites in and around the Demopolis Downtown Historical District. Limited info is provided on your GPS screen about each site. When I was setting up the tour and put to much description about each site my GPS would hang up and do nothing, so if you would like more information about these locations please Google them on line. Please do this tour in this order: (the tour guide at each site will help you with this) 1st - Demopolis Presbyterian Church, 2nd - Theater District, 3rd - Fountain, 4th – town square memorial, 5th – Opera House, 6th Bluff Hall, 7th – Trinity Church, 8th – Lyon Hall, 9th – St. Leo’s Church, 10th – Demopolis First Methodist Church, 11th – Gaineswood, 12th – Whitefield Canal, 13th – White Bluffs and 14th Grover Mausoleum. Be sure to read the entire cache page before proceeding. Download the game cartridge at www.wherigo.com and transfer it to your GPS before heading out to the tour Demopolis Historical Tour Wherigo Site. This is my first Wherigo Cache to publish and I have spent many, many hours working on it, so I hope you will enjoy doing it. I now understand why there are not many of these published, I have been working on this one for weeks now trying to get all the bugs worked out and provide you with a positive Wherigo Caching experience. I will give you a few tips about completing this cache. I have laid out a route for you to take through the virtual tour guides that will show up as you enter a zone (site location). Be sure to follow the instructions the tour guide gives you. There are clues that you must inventory, you will need these clues later to locate the final physical cache container, so at every site check your screen and look at “You See”. There you will notice a tour guide and maybe a clue. Seven of the sites have clues, be sure to look at all clues and tour guides before leaving a zone and be sure to inventory the clue before leaving a zone. The sites that do not have clues will automatically be marked as completed once you leave that zone and will no longer be visible. So be sure to see the tour guide before moving out of a zone. I had to do this because if all zones showed at the some time the GPS would hang up and not work any more until it was powered down. This is why I have set up a route for you to take through the tour guides. All seven sites that have clues will remain visible, so if you miss one you can go back and revisit the site. Once you have all seven clues you can locate the final physical cache container, generously stocked with swag, it is located near the Grover Mausoleum, the last stop on the tour. Many of the sites you will be visiting have a traditional cache very close by. If you have an extra GPS or an automotive GPS it will be very beneficial to make use of it. Be sure to download all Demopolis Alabama caches into it. The tour guide will inform you if there is a physical cache at or near the next location to visit and give you the GC number and the Cache Name. Use these caches to guide you to the next location. If you don’t have an extra GPS just use the directional arrow to guide you there. All locations are within a 1 mile radius. One last final tip, if you have a laptop, I would recommend that you save the cartridge file to your hard drive incase you need to reload it while doing the tour. I had a bad experience on a Wherigo with my GPS and did not have the file to reload so I did not get to finish the tour. I have checked and double checked the tour many times without any complications, so I suspect you want have any trouble either. There is an unactivated Geocoin for the FTF inside the log book bag. Hope you enjoy the tour. Congratulations to Canucachethis, Turfscape and GT5 for CO-FTF.
