An easy cache in the grounds of the cottage of the first smallholder farm in the district.
Built back in 1864 by Bentley Coton, this cottage is a well preserved example of housing at the time - made of local resources like clay and tussock. Have a look around the cottage and see the display through the windows.
The Hororata Historical Society now looks after the site and has the front building open as a museum on Sundays between 1:30 and 4pm, so it might be a more interesting time to visit but slightly more difficult to find the cache!
The cache itself is a 200ml Sistema at just above ground level, you will be out of sight when you look for it.
Update - 20110131 - After the earthquake it was a sorry state. The house is still out of bounds but the cache is not inside the fence around the house so it is safe to get to.
Update post quake - as you can read on the sign, it's not a repair job but a replacement with steel framing. Nice work team.
