Geocache Description:

Welcome to "Challenge Alley". This cache is accessible from the bike trail.

The cache IS at the posted coordinates!

That's 27 Stars!!

Please read the description below for logging requirements.

Numbers. We are fascinated by them.  We love to celebrate milestones and goals met of various numbers.  One hundred always seems to be a significant number that gives us a sense of accomplishment.

The object of this challenge is that you must find caches, all within one calendar day, where their combined Difficulty and Terrain stars add up to a minimum of 100.  I call this your Star Search day.  This can be done in a minimum of ten caches for the really ambitious. (10 caches rated as 5/5 star.  5 stars x 20 = 100 stars)  It can also be accomplished with exactly 50 caches on the other extreme.  (50 caches rated as 1/1 star.  1 star x 100 = 100 stars)  So all you have to do is find between 10 and 50 caches within one calendar day where their combined stars equal or exceed 100 stars!!  That's not so hard.  Or is it?

How do you figure this out?  Lets use this cache as an example:

100 Stars Challenge - Difficulty: Terrain: = 3.5 Stars for Difficulty + 1.5 Stars for Terrain

3.5 + 1.5 = 5 Stars for this example cache!!

The Rules of this Challenge:

  • All of your finds must be found on the same calendar day.

  • To even the playing field, only a Star Search day on or after the hidden date of this challenge may be used.

  • The sum of all the stars, Difficulty & Terrain, must equal or exceed 100 stars.

  • You can use any type of cache finds with the exclusion of other challenges. (See below)

  • Stars for the completion of other challenges may not be counted if logged on your Star Search day.

  • No "Armchair" finds may be used for this challenge.  You must have physically visited each cache that day.

  • Use of the stars for THIS challenge may be counted ONLY IF you physically visited and signed the log on the day of your Star Search. (There are 5 stars right there!!  That's 5% of of the Star Search Day's requirements)

  • You can visit the final and sign at anytime but you can not log your completion until you meet the logging requirements.  (Doing this eliminates your ability to use this as the final cache of your Star Search day.)

  • You MAY NOT log this challenge as conquered in conjunction with a completion of the " Average 4.1667 Finds/Hour Challenge".  These challenges are intended to be completed on separate days with a separate set of finds.

  • Star values are to be calculated as of the day of your find.  Changes in star value, either up or down, will not effect your final star count.  (Changes to star ratings are rare but it does happen)

  • Generally accepted rules, guidelines and conditions for logging a cache find apply. These must be bona fide caches listed on Geocaching.com that you have personally and physically active, found and logged.

Logging Requirements:

To log a “Found it” for this cache, in addition to finding the cache and signing the logbook, you must have:

Found enough caches in one calendar day where their combined Difficulty and Terrain star ratings add up to a minimum of 100 stars.

Demonstrate this logging requirement with a few options.  You can create a temporary bookmark listing each cache of your Star Search day with the star value in the notes.  Please leave this bookmark as active for at least one month.  Or you create a listing your log of the date of your Star Search, each cache found and the associated star value.  Regardless of how you demonstrate your completion of this challenge your log must include your total Star Count for the day.

Quick note on a way to calculate your Star Search Total:

If you use any of the many Waypoint Management software tools, chances are you have access to an "export" function.  I found that I can export a list of finds for a specific day to Excel, edit out the unwanted columns and then sum up the stars very easily.  I can also "Copy & Paste" the text from that spreadsheet to result in something like the following in a log:

GC # Cache Name Difficulty Terrain
GC18QE1 Where Could It Be? 3 1
GC1GVM7 All That Is Wild!! 1.5 1.5
GC1GYR1 Cache Plus Geoworld Market 1.5 1.5
GC1G7N2 12 MONTHS? NO! It only took me 9 2 1.5
GC17QMH Green Cheese In A Can 2 2
GC1G7NE PARTY TIME!!! 1.5 1.5
GC1H1B1 Sulley #8 1.5 2
Total Stars 24

Holy Moly!!  There's another 27 Stars!!

There everywhere!!
