Geocache Description:

The actual cache is placed a short distance from the posted coordinates which is a stone monument dedicated to a railway crash near the site in 1948. There is plenty of parking nearby either at the Staithes pub or on the side road in front of Dearne Valley Printers nearby.

I can hear you all asking ‘What railway Crash at Wath?’ Well for those of you who want to know more about the crash, which killed 8 people and injured 55 others please visit the link shown below. It may or may not help you in determining the actual cache coordinates.

In summary the Down Express Passenger Train from St Pancras to Bradford was derailed near Wath junction. A full investigation took place and the cause of the accident was determined as track distortion due to the heat (wow - we had a hot May in 1948!).

Now I’ll tell you how to find the cache. The actual cache can be found at N53 30.ABC W001 19.DEF. Go to the posted coordinates and you will see a very nice stone monument placed to commemorate the disaster and as a tribute to those who assisted in the rescue.

Firstly to get the N coords you will see a 5 digit number in the central part of the stone monument.
A = Third digit minus second digit
B = Fourth digit
C = First digit

Now for the W coords look at the inscription in the bottom section of the stone monument.
D = Number of letters in the first word of the second line.
E = Number of letters in the second word of the first line.
F = Number of letters in the last word of the bottom line.

The cache is a small screw top beaker sized container covered in cammo tape and it contains a log sheet, pen, pencil, sharpener, FTF card, cache box card and a few trade items.

Please add extra cover to the hide as necessary.
