A Nice Cache, a Great Hike,
and Beautiful Mountain Scenery
Grayson Highlands is easily one of the
state's most beautiful parks with lots of hiking and horseback
riding trails and easy access to the Appalachian Trail. As an added
bonus you might get to see a herd of wild ponies. The cache is a
camouflaged 7.62mm ammo can and contains lots of good swag and an
FTF prize.
This cache is placed within Grayson Highlands State Park with Park
Ranger’s permission, about 25 feet off Twin Pinnacles Trail
approximately halfway between the two pinnacles.
There is a parking fee of $2-$3 to enter the park
You can reach the Tween the Pinnacles Cache two ways.
Flat-landers will want to drive to the Visitors Center and take
the Twin Pinnacles Trail (Red Blaze) that is behind and to the left
of the Center.
When the road is covered with snow and or ice, or the area is
blanketed with fog the gate at Massie Gap may be locked which means
you either take a long hike, or resort to plan
B.
PLAN B
Park at the Massie Gap parking area and
take the Big Pinnacle Trail (Yellow Blaze) which is directly across
the road from parking. Look for the sign and yellow trail marker.
Follow the Big Pinnacle Trail for approximately .4 mile to where it
joins the Twin Pinnacles Trail (Red Blaze) just below the summit of
the Big Pinnacle.
