Wetherby Grange

Photo to follow.

Bielby Thompson obtained plans from 'The Great Mr Wyatt' and had them amended by John Carr. This most distictive house had a large three-storey circular tower to the main elevation. The estate devolved by marraige to the Thompsons of Escrick then by sale, in 1856, to the trustees of Robert Gunter as a suprise present for his son on his return from the Crimean War.
A sale catalogue of 1941 offered the house as Lot 61 "temporarily occupied by H.M.Government". It stipulated that if the house were bought for demolition that the site had to be cleared within six months. In fact it survived until 1964..

The cache is hidden as near as possible to the actual location of the house due to the road works.
