Bakkeåsen - P1 Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Cervis Venator

Geocache Description:

Location:
The cache is located on top of Bakkeåsen easily accessible on the "culture trail" (kulturstien) in Åsgårdstrand. Park your car either in Bakkeåsveien if you like a little exercise or at the Åsgårdstrand IF soccer field if you don't.

NORSK:

ENGLISH:
For more than one hundred years starting on January 1st 1838, Åsgårdstrand was an independent municipality in Vestfold County. A suggestion of merging Åsgårdstrand and Sem municipalities was denied by the inhabitants of Åsgårdstrand. Still, only 8 years later Åsgårdstrand and Borre municipalities were merged.

Later, when Borre and Horten municipalities were merged, inhabitants of Borre and Åsgårdstrand were afraid to lose their identity and a historically important name if the new municipality would be named Horten. On July 1st 2002 the name was changed to Horten and the inhabitants of Åsgårdstrand demonstrated the lost battle by creating Borre’s last “burial mound” in Bakkeåsen with a clear reference to the old Viking burial mounds “Borrehaugene” at Kirkebakken.

From the top of Bakkeåsen you can enjoy a great view of the Oslo fjord with clear sight towards Horten, Bastø, Larkollen in Østfold and the Esso refinery at Slagentangen.
