Geocache Description:

At Haurua, just south of Otorohanga, this memorial stone records a meeting between Potatau Te Wherowhero and his Ngati Maniapoto relatives in 1857. They gave their approval for him to accept the offer of kingship.

Almost, but not quite a drive up - you'll have to take a few steps to reach this cache.

One of those VERY historical places that is missed on the drive through the King Country. It was also affirmed that the Kingship of the maori people was to be hereditary in his family.

Potatau had been selected as King by a meeting of Chiefs of the maori tribes held at Pukawa in November 1856; but before he would accept the position, Potatau expressed his wish that the matter be submitted to his senior cousins among the Maniapoto tribe.

The chiefs of the Maniapoto tribe who deliberated and who made the decision were: Taonui, Hauauru, Haupokia, Te Wetini, Tuhoro and Te Kanawa.

The historical site of the meeting place Haurua, is at the Waitomo Golf Course across the road from the main gateway to Rereamanu Marae.

Cache is quite close to the road WATCH YOUR LITTLE CHILDREN, THE ROAD IS VERY CLOSE. Look for a 400ml sistema.box.

Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required.
Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
Remember - the log that says "TFTC" or "easy find" or "Nice hide" - hiders have already read that log hundreds of times already. We hope that your log will be different and worth opening the email to read!
