Geocache Description:

Follow mown paths most of the way. An easy cache and dash.

Hidden by Lansdowns this cache is just off the mown paths of the now disused (except for dog walkers) allotment area, apart from a long ago torched bike (now that's been tidied away) there is no evidence of untoward activity. The cache area is in the foundations of an ancient mystery building lost in the woods.

Some interesting information about this area: PASTED FROM LOG!

The ruins are an old plant nursery. I believe it may have been owned by the Henry Pope. Originally from Smethwick the generations of Popes were specialist in breeding rare flowers and supplied the Botanical Gardens back in the day.

I have read that Popes lane on which it is situated is named after them. Also the Overbury estate and Overbury Road, just up Popes Lane past the railway bridge, was named by the Pope family after the place they retired to. The roads on the estate were given the names of poets and has been known as 'poets corner'.

On 1950's OS maps, GZ is listed as Popes Lane Nursery. It is now almost entirely invaded by Wild Garlic which gives the lovely smell of the local kebab shop when you tread on the leaves. I also discovered you can track it all the way back to your home on the soles of your shoes
