SWaGMS Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

glacier_ice: Sadly there comes a time when it becomes necessary to archive a cache. With the barriers coming down and a reworking of the intersection, now is the time. Heckuva a run this cache has had since 2008. When the work is done, the intersection will have a new look with a new opportunity for a new hide location.

You are looking for a small magnetic container containing only the log sheet, bring your own pencil. Please squeeze this one shut when you're done with it.

Sometimes this cache gets a bit out of reach. A signature in the log is still required. Come prepared. If you cannot reach it, please come back with the correct tool. Please do not 'spot' the cache and claim it as a find.

Your biggest challenge at this, the windiest corner, won't be the weather, it'll be the muggles. Due to those muggles, the difficulty is on a sliding scale. The nicer the weather, the harder it is retrieve. The worse the weather, the easier it is to retrieve.

Congrats to Peter and Gloria on being FTF!

Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the hardiest cacher of all?

Well, to find this out, we set off on a one year odyssey. From December 28, 2008 to December 31st, 2009, hardy cachers of all breeds braved this famed windy corner. Some had mettle, others wimped out and waited for nicer weather.

Who was the craziest cacher? Well, it took a bit of tabulating to come to the final conclusion. It came down to three cachers who made their finds on Jan 12, 14 and 16. All 3 days were cold, so to make it fair, I took the daily average for the entire day.

Congratulations to kildonan61 who braved a bone chilling daily average on January 14th, of -31.5C with a windchill of -43.8.

Below is the top 12 list of hardiest cachers in Manitoba. Thank you to all who participated in this fun cache. This cache will remain available.

*Note: The first 4 temperatures reflect the very coldest temperatures of the day. All others were taken using an 8am reading.

*Honourable mention goes to bergmannfamily who signed the log 3 times, including on January 14th. Unfortunately, I could only use your original find day of January 1st.

Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
