Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden along Erle Road, a mile or two west of Beale AFB, near an old structure. The structure caught my eye due to the date "1927" etched into it.

In 1927 Charles Lindbergh made the first nonstop transatlantic flight. The Holland tunnel (from Manhattan to NJ), under the Hudson River, was opened. Ford replaced the Model T with the Model A. CBS was formed and went on the air with 47 radio stations. The FCC and the FDA were established; the first 7-Eleven Store opened (in Dallas, Texas); television was developed; and Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs that season. Juke boxes were created, as well as Gerber Baby Foods, Kool Aid, the aerosol spray can, the waterproof watch, and scotch tape. A first-class stamp cost two cents.
In the world of entertainment, "The Jazz Singer" with Al Jolson became the first talking movie, thus ending the silent film era. Show biz people born in 1927 include Sidney Poitier, Neil Simon, George C Scott, Harvey Korman, Patti Page and Andy Williams. The broadway musical "Showboat" opened and became the first great classic of the American musical theater. As Sinatra was later to croon, "it was a very good year..."
