WESTERPARK
De Westergasfabriek was ooit een van de grootste steenkoolgasfabrieken van Nederland. Nadat de onderneming in de jaren zestig de deuren sloot, ging een deel van de gebouwen tegen de vlakte. De 22 resterende panden belandden in de periode 1989-1996 op de Rijksmonumentenlijst.
De industriële monumenten en het omliggende cultuurpark van de Westergasfabriek (1885) vormen samen een multifunctionele ruimte en een modern stadspark van internationale allure. In de Westergasfabriek zitten tegenwoordig galeries, een bioscoop, een club, restaurants, cafés en tientallen creatieve bedrijven.
As a former gasworks on the edge of the vibrant city of Amsterdam, the Culture Park Westergasfabriek oozes a unique mood of adventure and energy. The area provides space for creative and cultural businesses. The industrial monuments and the surrounding park form a multifunctional space and a modern city park of international standing. There are trees, meadows and streams, dozens of offices, spaces for large and small events, bars, restaurants, a cinema, a theatre and much more.
Het park, dat 14 hectare groot is, ligt ten Noord-Westen van het historische centrum van Amsterdam. In het Noorden wordt het terrein begrensd door de spoorlijnen en in het zuiden door de Haarlemmervaart. Rondom de 22 industriële rijksmonumenten uit de 19e eeuw ligt een modern vormgegeven park.
The 14-acre park is situated North-West of the historical center of Amsterdam. The terrain is outlined by railway-lines at the North, and the Haarlemmervaart at the South. The 16 industrial monuments from the 19th century are surrounded by a modern park.
In 2008 is het cultuurpark Westergasfabriek officieel 
uitgeroepen tot Europees industrieel erfgoed.
De organisatie van de European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH) heeft de fabriek toegevoegd aan deze toeristische route langs de belangrijkste onderdelen van de Europese industriële geschiedenis.
Since 2008, the park belongs officially to the European Industrial Heritage. The organization of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH) has added the Westergasfabriek to the touristical route along the major components of the European industrial history.
In het Westerpark zijn uiteenlopende creatieve industrieën en horecagelegenheden te vinden. Je vindt hier onder meer De Bakkerswinkel, bioscoop Het Ketelhuis, restaurant Pacific parc, galerie Artolive, eetontwerpstudio Proef en de kantoren van IJsfontein en de Kunstbende. Regelmatig vinden er evenementen plaats.
In the Westerpark, various creative industries and catering industries are to be found. For example, you can find bakerstore “De Bakkerswinkel”, cinema “Het Ketelhuis”, restaurant “Pacific Parc”, galery “Art Olive” and food design studio “Proef”. Events are organized frequently.
Bereikbaarheid
- Vanaf station Amsterdam Centraal ligt het Westerpark op ca. 15-20 minuten loopafstand.
- Betaald parkeren is – beperkt – mogelijk bij Ingang west van het park. Je kunt hier in principe onbeperkt parkeren van 9.00 – 24.00, behalve op maandag. vrijdag van 9.00 – 17.30 en op donderdag tot 19.00 uur. Op die tijdstippen kun je maximaal 4 uur parkeren.
- Bij de ingang van het Westerpark bevindt zich bovendien een halte van de canal-bus.
