A small hide in the heart of town.
The town used to be named Vallecitos as it lies on the Vallecitos
Creek. Paulin Montoya settled his family here in 1768.There used to
be a sawmill here. When the town applied for a Post Office they had
to rename it (to Ponderosa for the tall pines in the area) because
there was another Vallecitos in New Mexico. Old maps and ol-timers
still call the town Vallecitos.
