Geocache Description:

Finding this cache is going to require a little compass skill but you will be able to solve it even if your just walk around the start area of the riddle and read the grave stones. The cache is about a quarter mile from the cemetery. It can be walked but transportation would do better. You will be looking for a regular Lock & Lock with treasure.

Edward DeFeet the local pirate of note did all his swashbuckling on these local waters. His lair was the piney folds of the East River soon to become the quite sleepy communities of Holly and Navarre. His prey was the merchant ships plying the Escambia Bay. Pensacola was a very busy port city during the early 1800s and Ed DeFeet was a very busy brigand. His name struck terror into the hearts of all who heard it from Ono Island to Florosa. The courage of the Spanish, English, French, Moroccans and those from Orlando would melt at the sight of his 34’ Chinese Junk manned with the worst bunch of cutthroats and ruffians the Gulf Coast had ever seen. There was no mercy from this crew and their captain. No one was safe if they were out on the waters of the bay. Even though the navies of the countries that controlled the area during this time, and they were many, tried to capture this monster they met with nothing but failure. Time and time again Ed DeFeet would strike and then disappear into the fogs that plague the mouth of the river. No one knows what happened to this malefactor but one thing is sure, his treasure it out there somewhere. If anyone would know where the treasure was it would be those who first settled this area. Many think that any knowledge of the whereabouts of the loot went to the grave with these people. Could be some truth in that. You must search out the clues found on the notable graves of Holley and Navarre’s early residents. You will need to know how to use a compass if you are not familiar with all your GPS can do.

Start your search near the middle of Harpers Cemetery (where the coordinates take you), in front of the only statue there. All compass readings will start at the foot of the grave you are investigating.

From the Statue grave you will… A Step off 10 paces @ 320 degrees. This will be the oldest marked grave here. What is the birth month?

From here…. B Step off 19 paces @ 170 degrees. This will be 1 of 2 confederate veterans (1st Fl Infantry)How many total fingers including thumb can you see on the hand?

From here…. C Step off 20 paces @ 240 degrees. A veteran from the Spanish American War. The month he died minus 1?

From here…. D Step off 25 paces @ 35 degrees. This will be the other confederate veteran (6th Fl Infantry) Birth month minus 2?

The treasure is located at N30 26.CAB W086 52.BDA
