Geocache Description:

A great starting point for exploring the area.

The woolshed and shearer's quarters located near this cache are part of the original London bridge property.

The woolshed was built in the early 1930's, constructed from red box supports, tallow wood floor and galvanised iron roof and cladding. The woolshed contained a 'Koerstz Homestead Box' woolpress. Around the same period the nearby shearers quarters were built and the other amenities were added over the years.

Between 2,500 and 4,000 sheep were shorn annually until 1973 when the wooldshed and surrounding land was aquired by the Commonwealth to protect part of the catchment of Googong Reservoir.

The woolshed has great facilities for enjoying your time at the northern reaches of Googong Dam. This is also a good picnic area with tables, barbeques and toilets.

From this area there are some great walks to other historic location, a fascinating geographical formation and the eastern/western foreshore walks along Googong Dam.

Please be aware that the cache is not avaliable 24/7 and access is subject to ACT Parks.
