Geocache Description:

The name refers to the endangered Hectors dolphins that can usually be seen from the cliff-tops.

400ml Sistema box with just logbook, pencil and one elderly but unused roll of 8mm Kodak film.

Some scrambling required, and although in a rock-climbing area, no climbing skills are required. There is a (15min) path from the nearest carpark which will take you close to the site. The path is not maintained but is well used. Despite the DoC signs, this is not Conservation Estate. The track can be muddy after rain. The final 20 metres or so are just a rough track used by climbers, more like a back-country track.
There is clear access to satellites at the site.
This is a special place that is enjoyed by many people of all ages and abilities. Do remember that if you venture near the cliffs that gravity sucks. There are no safety rails at the top or soft mats at the bottom. Having pointed out the obvious, it needs to be said that the only fatalities there have been drownings. Beware of the surge holes if you venture onto the wave platforms.
For those who are climbers, there is a climb here by the same name, but it is on the cliffs further north past the bays and more difficult to access than this area.
