Geocache Description:

The cache is located in Kilbride Cemetery. In keeping with geocaching principles please respect this area - there is no need to walk on or disturb any graves.

The term "God's Acre" goes back to an ancient Saxon phrase given to a burial ground. The name comes from a symbolic gesture of bodies being "sown" in God's acre as in a field, so that they can rise again when Jesus Christ returns to the world. This particular "acre" is in the parish of Kilbride near Ballyclare. "Kilbride" means church of Bride or Brigid, the foremost woman connected with the early Celtic church. Today no sign of the original church (which dated back to at least 1306) remains - however, you cannot fail to notice the Stephenson Family Mausoleum which is reminiscent of a miniature Mogul Tomb. Walk around the mausoleum and you will find the grave of Florence Mary McDowell, a celebrated local authoress who wrote "Other Days Around Me" and "Roses and Rainbows". There is a small parking area at N54*45.278; W006*03.668 - be careful when exiting on to the road. The cache itself (a small container - please bring a pencil) is a quick and handy offset multi. The co-ordinates will lead you to your starting point - the hint will direct you from there. As with many such undisturbed and slightly overgrown areas if you are quiet and have a little patience you will most likely encounter some of the local wildlife. Written on an Alaskan wilderness map are these words - "Remember, just because you don't see anything doesn't mean you are not being watched" - the same applies here too!
