Geocache Description:

Sequim Pioneer Park

Located on a ridge at the northern end of the Valley, the cemetery commands a spectacular view of both mountains and the Strait. Here lie many of the early settlers and their families. Richard O’Connell McDonnell, who settled at the mouth of McDonnell Creek in 1860, was the first to be buried there.
In Sequim, Pioneer Memorial Park was once a cemetery. John Bell sold the property to the county for a cemetery on Feb. 6, 1888 for $60. Trouble arose when the high water table at that time caused the caskets to float to the surface. About 1913 J. A. Adams donated land for the Sequim View cemetery on a ridge north of town and the cemetery was completely moved in 1914.
