Located in a reserve beside the Main North Road heading out of Christchurch. A cache was hidden here previously but was muggled. A cache has been hidden amongst the stones this time.
It is not so long ago that this section of SH1 was a real bottleneck as the road narrowed to two lanes on the bridge passing over the main truck railway and the Styx River.
Reconstruction work to widen the road and bridge included a viewing platform on the southern side of the highway accessible by foot or bicycle. The platform spans the river and overlooks a small reserve on the river banks. Alongside the road wire cages filled with stones provide protection against flood erosion.
You will find the cache hidden in camo berocca container amongst stones in the reserve not far from the base of the viewing platform. From the right angle it can be seen up close. It may not be necessary to remove any stones please replace them if you do. The cache will be much more difficult to find at night. When hidden the cache contained log book, stash note, pencil, pencil sharpener, There is no room for swops.
Warning. Please do not stop in this vicinity on the main road in a motor vehicle. There is easy access to the reserve from a side road. Watch any children you might have with you as the river running through the reserve is deep and very swift.
