Geocache Description:

Happy Birthday Charles Darwin!

2009 marks the bi-centennial of the birth of Shrewsbury’s most famous son.

The town is gearing up for celebrations throughout the year, so it seems appropriate there should be a cache too!

This cache takes you on a quick tour of some of the significant places around the town that influenced a young Charles Darwin and helped shape him into one of the world’s most significant scientists.

There is a free to download ‘Town Trail’ from the Discover Darwin website (visit link) that fills in all the historical details of the places you’ll visit on the cache. (you don’t need to download the guide, but it really is worth it)

The cache can be completed at any time, but if you do tackle it in the evening during 2009, there’s an added bonus that some of the buildings you’ll be visiting will have images and text that have Darwin links projected on to them

The final cache location will give you a perfect view of a new Darwin monument that is being unveiled in February 2009.

This is a magnetic micro cache in a high traffic area and only contains a log – bring a pen, please be discreet and replace it in the exact spot you found it!

The cache is a gentle walk, and could easily be completed in around 45 minutes (as long as you don’t get too distracted along the way)

Recommended parking is at Frankwell Car Park
