Geocache Description:

A cache that will take you on a nice walk by the Hudson River in Croton Point Park.

This is the first (edit: not the first as PT and Team MuMu pointed out but the others have been gone for a while) permanent cache in Croton Point park. While the park itself is not as pristine as other parks or preserves in Westchester (an understatement!) the park has some spectacular views of the Hudson river. I have kayaked a number of times along the Croton Point shore and have wanted to put a cache there for some time. I hope you enjoy the views and the walk along the river.

There are potentially a number of ways to approach the cache, but I suggest parking outside the campground (see parking coordinates) and approaching from a trail that leaves the campground road just past the tent campground pool. The trail is not in great shape as the river has undercut the bank along which the trail runs. At one point I had to go down onto the beach which means that some bushwhacking MAY be required at high tide. The area around the cache has many vines, and is rather brushy. The walk along the Hudson provides a good CITO opportunity -- I encourage you to bring a bag and help clean up some of the refuse the river deposits along the shore.

It may be tempting to bushwack from the parking area straight to the cache – after all, it’s only about 250’ or so. However, that’s not the route that I recommend. You’ll end up struggling through some heavy growth, as well as encountering a swamp. Instead, go to the rear of the parking area past the pool as indicated and begin at the trailhead (coordinates provided). It will mean a slightly longer, but much easier, walk.

Check out the excellent picture by Heikster of the river in winter -- it is fabulous!

The container is a medium size lock-and-lock that will hold most swag, though large items may not fit. At the time of posting the cache is rather full. A partial list of contents:

A FTF prize: A trinket from the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC along with an new travel bug.

A "Where's George" Dollar Bill

A Republican Pin (says nothing about out political leanings -- we left a similar Democrat pin in another cache).

Two MuMu fish

A new "Geocache Spy Satellite" TB

**** Congratulations to Brunswick69 on his first FTF for this cache! ****
