Easy "drive by" cache at Ingbirchworth
Ingbirchworth is an old farming village on the former drovers road (which kept to the high ground along the line of the current Halifax Road to avoid the marshy river valleys).
In the early 1900's steam powered "Agricultural General Purpose Engines" were commonly employed in the countryside as mobile power plants to help with threshing, tree pulling & general farm duties. These heavy traction engines were often owned by contractors moving from farm to farm rather than by individual farmers.
In an attempt to reduce the damage done to the stone lined drainage culverts by these touring behemoths, there is a warning sign for traction engines outside Ingfield Farm on the village green reading:
"Gunthwaite and Ingbirchworth U.D.C. Notice.
Owners of traction engines will be responsible for damage done by them in crossing this culvert."
The cache is 35mm film container with log book & pencil only.
