The Hudson Toll Bridge was the original crossing across the St. Croix River between WI and MN. It was privately owned by the St. Croix Bridge Company until 1917. The bridge has long been replaced by a new crossing just south of here, but you can still walk along the old route (and even find a couple of caches placed by zuma! and Da Bloodhound along the way).
The coordinates will bring you to the Hudson lighted arch, more specifically to the North pillar, where there is a plaque describing the history of the toll bridge and arch. The final is located at:
N44 58.XXX W092 45.ABC
Where:
XXX = Original cost of the lighted arch structure (donated by Dr. Boyd T. Williams) minus 1072
A = The second digit of the day in June the bridge was originally opened in 1913
B = Second digit of the year the toll bridge was abandoned
C = Third digit of the year Dr. Boyd T. Williams donated the lighted arch structure
Final will take you a short distance into Lakefront Park. A camo matchstick container with log and pencil awaits, and please use stealth during those warm weather months. (You’ll be nicely hidden from street view at the final.)
