This is another in our series around Loch Leven on the Heritage Trail and meanders through Levenmouth Wood
The emphasis is on wildlife and Loch Leven’s status as a national nature reserve. The loch’s water, islands and reed-fringed shores are internationally important for nesting ducks and over-wintering wildfowl, with more than 20,000 pink-footed geese using the area. Whatever time of year you visit, there are plenty of birds to see and the three hides along the route are ideal places to sit and watch their goings-on. One hide being just 0.20 miles from the cache site.
Access to this part of the trail can be gained from either Vane Farm RSPB Reserve or from Findatie Car park both on the B9097, however the path from Findatie car park down to the trail is quite steep initially.
Look out for the wild mushrooms and fungi around the area.
