This cache is on a rocky hilltop in Orange County's future Twin Creeks Park. To honor the Occoneechee Native
Americans who once lived in this area, the park will also be called Moniese Nomp (pronounced "mo-nee-ay-say-nom-p”), which is Tupelo Saponi for “twin creeks.” The creeks, Jones Creek and Buckhorn Branch, are in the Bolin Creek watershed.
Orange County acquired these 192 acres in 2001, with the vision of a joint educational campus and park. Morris Grove Elementary School opened on the property in 2008. The park portion will be developed in phases, and will some day include lots of playing fields and other facilities. But one particularly beautiful area - where this cache happens to be placed - is to remain in its current wooded state.
The Orange County department that manages future parklands wants to make sure you understand, before you go wandering around on parklands that are not yet officially open, that you are responsible for your own safety. The County is in no way liable if you get hurt.
This cache was initially well stocked with trade items for people of all ages. Expect to do a little bushwhacking. I recommend long pants, sturdy shoes, and DEET in tick season.
I'm listing coordinates for two possible parking areas. One is closer than the other, but it may become unavailable as construction work in the park gets underway. Be sure not to block the gate! And please respect the signs that prohibit motorized vehicles anywhere within the parklands, as well as the signs that prohibit trespassing in the area of the old Cate farmstead. You don't have to go near the farmstead to find the cache.
This is my first hide, and I really hope people enjoy it.
