Geocache Description:

Prairieville, U.S.A.

Welcome to "Prairieville", a collection of the old, obscure, historical and unique. This lakeside hilltop was originally the site of the Mr. & Mrs. Rueben M. Ward homestead, a 160 acre parcel they maintained from 1860-1973. Over the years it was also known as the Day farm and is now officially known as Heritage Acres.

Today the location is home to many historic and interesting buildings and structures, among them a schoolhouse built in 1892, a farmhouse from 1890, a chapel from 1892, a train depot, a grain elevator and a few more, all donated from the surrounding region.

Scattered in and around the whole "village" are antique farming equipment, railroad equipment and other sights to capture your attention, as well as a paved trail winding along the west side of Sisseton Lake and a prairie dog exhibit near the entrance. Heritage Acres also hosts several weddings, festivals and a threshing bee each year.

This area is usually pretty quiet though, you probably won't have to worry about being disturbed while you look around.
