Geocache Description:

This cache is located near a foot bridge over Coalford Beck on land known as The Derry - reclaimed land which used to be slag heaps from the pits which gave rise to the village of Pittington.

Coalford Beck and the site of this cache are between the edge of land which was shared by the Adolphus and Londonderry Pit and the site of Lambton Main Engine (now a farmers field).

The Adolphus Pit was opened in 1826 and named after a son of the Marquis of Londonderry, adjacent to the Londonderry (or Derry) Pit of 1828. By 1890, the Adolphus and Londonderry Pit were disused. The site of the Lambton Main Engine remained until the 1960's.

This cache is a small, traditional cache, stocked with quality items. The snap fit container is in a camouflaged, waterproof sleeve.

One of a series of three traditional caches in the area which link together with my three micro caches to form a 3.3 mile circular route. For those interested in completing all six caches, the route can be found at (visit link)
