Black or Turkey Vulture Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Vertighost: Cache owner (CO) has not responded and, as there's been no cache to find for an extended period of time, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. Please note that caches that have been archived due to maintenance issues or lack of cache owner communication are not eligible to be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Number ten in a series of caches featuring birds of the upper Texas coast. You are looking for a medium pill bottle that can hold a few trade items, camo of course. The Katy Prairie is one of the best birding spots in the country. This cache is placed along a road that can often provide views of a number of species without leaving the car.

Two of the three New World Vultures the Black and Turkey are found in our area. Plumage on both species are primarily black on the wings, body, and tail, with some pattern of white or silver on the under wings. Both share the naked head, black on the Black Vulture and red on the Turkey Vulture. In flight is the best identification is the pattern of light or silver on the under wing and a look at the tail that is shorter on the Black Vulture that that of the Turkey Vulture. The Turkey Vulture has the silvery tips plus a trailing edge and a longer tail, while the Black Vulture has just the silvery wing tips.

This cache contains a small treasure chest as a FTF prize.

I have not acknowledged FTF on the previous nine caches but will give credit to the first to acknowledge finding each of the first ten in this series.
